Driftwood Diner was created to be part of that ritual: a simple, welcoming breakfast spot serving locals, day-trippers, and island guests looking for great food and genuine hospitality.

Today, we’re excited to welcome you to the Driftwood Diner blog and share a little about who we are, why we opened, and what makes our breakfast on Daufuskie Island special.



A New Chapter in a Familiar Location

Driftwood Diner sits in the iconic former Lucy Bell’s Café building, a place many people already associate with good memories and great meals. When we took over the space, our goal wasn’t to reinvent the island—it was to honor its history while offering something fresh, dependable, and uniquely ours.

We kept the heart of the place the same: comfort food, friendly service, and a porch where conversations last longer than coffee cups. From scratch-made biscuits to breakfast burritos and fresh breakfast sandwiches, our menu is built around simplicity, quality, and flavors that fit the Lowcountry.

At Driftwood Diner, we believe breakfast should be both comforting and memorable. We focus on doing the basics extremely well, whether it’s a classic bacon, egg, and cheese, our berry-glazed biscuits, or the crowd favorite: Paw-Paw’s Butter.

  Sometimes life has a way of changing plans in an instant. June 3, 2026 Just over a week ago, Julie traveled to Chattanooga to be with her father while he underwent what was expected to be a routine angioplasty procedure. Like many families would, we expected a short trip, a successful procedure, and a quick return home. Instead, the angioplasty revealed more serious concerns than anyone anticipated. Doctors quickly determined that open-heart surgery was necessary, and what began as a weekend trip suddenly became something much bigger. On Thursday, May 28, Julie’s father underwent quadruple bypass surgery. As our family shifted its focus toward supporting him through surgery and recovery, Driftwood Diner found itself in an unexpected position. With Julie remaining in Chattanooga and Casey managing another business during one of its busiest seasons of the year, there simply wasn’t much extra capacity to keep everything running as usual.
